Robert Reich Proves Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

One of the reasons we can’t have nice things – modern housing, even affordable housing – is because those who already have won’t allow others to gain these things. Take this, supposedly from Robert Reich:

A nice area of Berkeley no doubt. With a large house on a large lot. Which the current owner appears to want to turn into smaller houses each on smaller lots.

The reaction of Professor Reich, that vanguard of the liberal polity? No way in Hell can anyone be allowed to disturb my Elysium.

It’s fine that other people who have worked for their money get it taxed away at my urging. It’s entirely justified that other people must pay higher wages just because I say so. But the mere idea that someone might adapt their own property in order to house more people? No, we must use the law to prevent them so as to defend what is mine.

This is why we can’t have nice things of course. Robert Reich won’t let us.

  1. And, he’s probably raising hell that President Trump deep-sixed Obama’s edict that American suburbs be forced to rezone to require (not allow) low income, subsidized housing built in all neighborhoods.
